The Mob Grows

Read this piece from Mike and this piece from yesterday's newswire.

Now calculate the effect of these two factors on the overall progress of freedom in this country.

Do you understand?

And note -- it makes not a whit of difference as to a person's gender, ethnicity, skin tone, or any other superficial factor. What does matter is where a person falls on the "government power versus individual freedom" continuum.

The simple fact is that the ratio of increased government power supporters to the number of individual freedom supporters is bad today and growing worse.

Under those conditions, the voting booth becomes a one-way apparatus.

Alea iacta est.

Are you sure the ratio is still moving to favor increased government power, given how popular survivalism has become lately?

The ability of an increased government power supporter to make trouble is dependent on the amount of resources that government has to make trouble with. If the economy is squished and the savings have been wasted, what can it do? Does it have the means to feed and house an additional couple percent of the population in prison? What would be the popular reaction to that?

The tighter it squeezes, the more sand sifts through its fingers, etc.

I agree that there have been some encouraging trends re the ratio's numerator (i.e., the number of freedoom folks) lately.

But what if the denominator (government-loving folks) is increasing as fast or faster than the numerator?

One can make a rational argument that such is the case.

History tells us that the true, free republic never lasts. I think it was Plato that said it runs it's course from freedom, through democracy and then apathy and corruption and finally repression. Except plato never met the free American, with independent mind and spirit, moral certainty and content of character, he will not be subjugated. Neither will I.
