Futile?

Billy Beck links to this chap.

Read it and tell me:

Is it better to keep shouting, or simply go about one's business as the Light fades?

What keeps me going, barely, is that (likely delusional) thought that someday, somebody will, as I did with Garet Garrett, look to the remnants of our work and say:

"People knew how bad it was going to be, and did the best they knew how to alert others."

Qui tacet consentire videtur
.

Silence is consent.

Ok, so we're all alerted.... now what?

Zip. Now we just know the ship is sinking. When will we start bailing it out and shoring it up?

It may seem futile most of the time. But the quote about how you tried to warn people, is a good enough epitaph, is it not?

Probably puts you in the top one percent of gun owners, to say nothing of the general population.

No worries, you've done good.

Think about all the people, good and bad, that you've met as a result of your activism. And also think about walks in the mid-South countryside in winter, that you would have not had otherwise.

Jim:

I get it -- likely more than you know.

I stand on the words I said here:

***
...Vanderboegh is right when he urges that American freedom fighters should avoid giving the Obamites the "Fort Sumter" provocation that will be used to imposed draconian measures such as martial law, random "gun safety" roadblocks, weapons confiscations, and other outrages.

But just like the taboo against cannibalism, each individual needs to weigh the benefits of avoiding anti-government provocations against the risk of being too weak (both psychologically and militarily) for any post-taboo actions to succeed. Moreover, if the oath to protect and defend the Constitution is to be meaningful, each citizen bound by that oath must both acknowledge and discharge the duty of action (remember, "protect" and "defend" are both action verbs, as we used to learn in grammar school) created when the Constitutional form of government is violated.

For in the end, there is no chain of command for American freedom fighters. The lack of centralized command-and-control mechanisms that insulate leaderless insurrections from many conventional military tactics also leaves the "launch order" as a matter of individual (or small group) discretion.

Choose wisely.

And remember, if a provocation is needed by Leviathan to advance its objectives, and judicious American gun owners refuse to supply one, one will be provided, courtesy of your tax dollars.

And thus we will plunged, even after acting with reason and prudence, into the post-Sumter world...

***

You, me, and every other freedom-lover around the world need only account to ourselves, your God, and posterity for both our actions and inactions.

Think globally, act locally.

Jim: One other point re your "ship" metaphor --

IMHO, the ship we are on is no longer seaworthy. There's lots of bits that can be salvaged and repurposed, but when we sail away, it will be on a different, more responsive vessel.

Forward.

Silence is consent.

The above is most assuredly the truth, but my post did not state that I would be silent.

My words were an acknowledgement of the fact that the professional jobholders are very similar to the sparrows I shoot in my backyard. An acknowledgement that any posts I may pen, which directly attack any one specific professional jobholder or their foolishness, are like a BB shot at a sparrow. I may have eliminated one sparrow, but I have not eliminated, or even marginally affected, the flock.

The flock of sparrows is what I want to eliminate, but what the flock feeds on, the ignorant, fearful voting masses, is what needs to be denied to the sparrows.

Agreed, John.

"Silence is consent" was a brief explanation (to myself and readers) of why I plan to keep squawking, despite the Sisyphean nature of the problem.

Warning others, is a moral imperative. Hence, the rattlesnake on the flag.

I have no idea what will happen in the future, I only know what I will do, in response to certain events, and those are what I warn of.
